EMBRACING PURITY

Real purity comes as a result of believing that Lord Jesus died your place to ransom you from impurity. Pure living increases as you work together with the Holy Spirit to live as a redeemed child of God.

Purity describes who you are and what you do. 



Purity is being free from anything that contaminates. A pure life is the one in which sin no longer determines the choices one makes. 

Being pure is synonymous with not having sin; the bible defines purity as abstaining from sin. Therefore, sexual purity is not the only definition of purity.


However, thinking of purity solely in these ways misses the Bible's  teaching about what purity is. Looking at the Bible, we see that, it is speaking of something that is far deeper and more universal.

Purity is more than just a sexual problem that should concern both men and women. 


Purity Is About Wholeness

Jesus stated, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" (Matthew5:8). Jesus did not point to a sexual purity. Instead, he was pointing to a spiritual purity.

For someone to be pure in heart, it means their heart is set on one thing and nothing else. It is wholly directed towards one thing. For us to be concerned about purity, we need to be concerned about where our affections and devotions lie. While the Bible is certainly concerned with sexual purity , it is far more concerned with a purity of heart.

Purity Is About Devotion

James used the language of "adultery" to speak of "purity".

James’ call against believers is far stronger. We read in James 4:4, "You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the worldakes himself an enemy of God".

We cannot be devoted to this world and be devoted to God. It's one or the other. His call to these Christians is to purify their hearts (James 4:8)

This is the practice we must make as well. We must continually seek to purify our hearts from spiritual adultery.This means that we must consider how our thoughts and actions demonstrate what we are truly devoted to.


Purity is important to God, who alone is pure. In order to have a fellowship with a holy God, we must reclaim the purity He originally intended  for us: " Who shall ascend in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart" (Psalm24:3-4).

In Addition,

Purity is a state that can be achieved with the help of the holy spirit. A Christian has emotions as well as feelings that can sometimes be overwhelming . However, surrendering yourself to the holy spirit and abstaining from anything that would trigger an unruly behaviour should be encouraged.

Remember, wisdom is profitable to direct .
